Oh Sloane…
Starting tomorrow I’ll begin laying out the very first issue of Sloane. Many late nights are surely ahead of me…So, before diving in I thought I’d take a moment to pay homage to the lady who is the magazine’s namesake: Sloane Peterson. The woman who opened my 9-year-old eyes to what it meant to be chic, polished, understated, elegant, smart and witty. Yes, I’m talking about the girl in the white fringed leather jacket from Ferris Buehler’s Day Off. Her mischievous eyes, hair flip and snotty, upper-class Chicago accent—I was mesmerized. “Cam, Cam? Blink if you cahn heer me…” I wanted to be her. Of course, I think you’ll find Sloane to be less vapid than your average Hughes flick, but don’t we all hold some of that childish awe in us still?
Thank you Mia Sara for inspiring me.
