Happy Valentines Day, Mi Amor!

I’ve always been a bit of hater when it comes to Valentines Day—it’s just so forced and commercial…Fortunately, I have a new reason to like the date—for, it was on the 14th I boarded a plane to Mexico City to embark upon what was, truly, the best week of my life. Happy Valentines Day Amor.

Successful Miami Week

I am so pleased to report that Miami was not only about fun and parties, but also a huge success for the Steven Zevitas Gallery at the NADA fair—nearly selling out the entire booth and getting great feedback and interest from collectors around the country. New American Paintings also had continued success at Art Basel and received lots of attention from grateful collectors who use our books to purchase up and coming artist’s work and from grateful artists who reported amazing beginnings to their careers as a result of appearing in our publication. I generally feel quite lucky to have the job I have, but nothing is quite like an experience like this to really get
in touch with why you do what you do.

Drinks at the Gansevoort

Santigold at the Raleigh Hotel

Santigold (formally Santogold, but was sued by an artist of the same name) put on a great performance at the Deitch Projects party at the Raleigh Hotel. Although it was an incredibly short set and I sadly missed the first couple of songs—even the tail end was pretty impressive. If you don’t know her music, listen to a track on the right sidebar.

Off to Miami…

Lusting no more…

Gracias to my father-in-law for my early Christmas present: a new Canon Rebel Tli! (and thank you to my husband for knowing I’d want it early so I can shoot at Art Basel Miami). I am so grateful and excited for my new toy.

I’ll admit, just after the initial excitement wore off, I was filled with a nagging
insecurity…performance anxiety. For over 6 years of my younger years, being
a photographer was all I wanted to do.

But, after 2 years in New York at the School of Visual Arts in their direct entry
photo program (for reasons that are too numerous to explain here) I put down
my camera to focus on Art History and Graphic Design. Now I’ve got a fantastic
new tool to begin again—this time, trading my film cameras for this new digital
baby. Thank you, thank you.

Fashion is for Women, it is not for attracting men.

Ok, so normally I wouldn’t touch the topic of fashion with a ten foot pole—there
are enough fashion bloggers out there who can do a better job (although, I would
put it under the umbrella of art and design). And I am certainly far from being a
fashionista, but I do love fashion and try to incorporate a few of the season’s trends
into my own personal style to stay fresh.

This post is really just my attempt to publicly prove my husband wrong (sorry babe). Ever since purchasing my latest obsession of slightly above the ankle distressed cowboy boots, my husband has been trying to tell me I cannot wear them with my jeans tucked in. I, of course, vehemently disagree. And, I’m not talking about the knee high boots Camillo (although, I am unwilling to let that go just yet…) I’m talking a little more downtown, art-girl, edgy New Yorker, with jeans a little scrunched at the bottom. Amor, please refer to the photos below. Love you.

Let’s be honest, men could see us on a 3 outfit cycle of catholic school girl, naughty secretary, and one of the girls from the Addicted to Love video and they’d be happy.

I have aspirations to buy a professional letterpress someday, but until then, how awesome is this affordable little letterpress kit being given away on iDIY today? Made by Lifestyle Crafts this little set allows you to make your own cards! I hope this little guy won’t put me out of business…but, this is also a shameless plug to be chosen as their winner. Wish me luck.

I can just imagine now what I could do…I’d have custom plates of my designs made by a platemaker and have a mini factory in my own home! These designs would be well suited for letterpress:
